98 Explorer Help

We have a 98 Explorer with a 5.0 engine and there's a tick, but only when it's accelerating. Any suggestions as to what it might be? Also, the ABS light is on but we don't know why. There's a bit of a grinding noise in the front driver's side wheel, would that have anything to do with it? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

A tick while accelerating is usually a ping due to a lean condition.

The grinding noise could be the wheel bearings in that hub. If its a 4WD the hub and bearings are easy to change and the ABS sensor for that wheel will be included with the hub. Check Auto Zone or Advance auto Parts' web site for pics.

Can also be a header starting to leak. YES, they do have headers, really weird ones...

I have that tick sound...... been leaking from both exhaust manifolds for 3 years now... haven't fixed it, just been living with it

As for the grinding noise, had that exact same problem with both front wheels. Replaced the wheel bearing (which has the ABS sensor in it) and ABS lite went out and grinding noise went completely away.

My money on the ABS light and grinding noise is the hub wheel bearing, happened to my 97. That ticking sound, sounds like an exhaust leak, most likely at the manifold to exhaust pipe.
