Hey Guys,
I need some help. there's some minor problems with my truck. I have a 98 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0 SOHC.
Anyway here are the list I need help on.
1. My rearview mirror always shakes. Is there a way to tighten it?
2. My rear window wipers work but it always misses the middle spot. It's as if its not giving even pressure all the way through. Basically it only wipes the left side while the middle stays dirty.
Let me know if there's any quick fixes for them.
Thanks.
Don't know about the rear-view mirror, but with the rear wiper, you could just ben the arm slightly towards the glass. That will create more force against the glass. Most of us have had to do this at some point.
My brother has a 2000 explorer that has the larger mirror and at about 70 mph, the mirror shakes. This problem has existed since it was new and the half a*s dealer he bought it from actually broke the windshield trying to tighten the mirror. Seems to me to be a flaw, my 97 has a regular mirror and no shake up to 100mph.
1. Fow what it's worth my buddy had a 2000 EB with this problem and the dealer replaced the mirror under warranty.
2. Ford came up with a rear wiper arm with a stronger spring a few years ago (appx $30)

SOME 1998-2002 EXPLORER SPORT AND 1998-2001 EXPlORER/MOUNTAINEERS MAY EXHIBIT A REAR WIPER THAT DOES NOT SUFFICIENTLY CLEAN THE BACK GLASS. TO SERVICE, FIRST INSPECT FOR THE LETTERS 'AB' STAMPED ON THE WIPER ARM JUST BELOW THE WIPER BLADE PIVOT PIN. IF THE LETTERS ARE NOT STAMPED ON THE ARM, INSTALL NEW SERVICE ARM PART # XL2Z-17526-AA. NOTE: ENSURE THAT THE NEW SERVICE ARM ASSEMBLY HAS THE LETTERS -AB' STAMPED ON ORIGINAL WIPERS WITH 'AB' STAMPED NEAR THE PIVOT PIN WERE REVISED TO APPLY MORE PRESSURE TO THE BACK GLASS.
