I have a 2008 F-150 Lariat and the top speed is limited to somewhere in the neighborhood of 95-100mph. Not cool!!! Has anyone explored options for getting around this? The only thing I see is going with something like a programmer like the one found here:
I like the first because of the custom dash mount. Has anyone installed either of these? If so, have you retested your top speed? How much does it give? Are there other options out there?
i have the edge evo and i have taken my limiter to 130.
the fastest i have gotten was 122MPH and it was ... stupid. the trucks not supposed to go that fast EVER! im sure the fastest you could ever go is 125 and thats on flat ground with no head wind and 4 miles of straight road.
I'm tired of getting punked by my brother-in-law with his Toyota. I can take him on the start with ease but then he catches up to me because I top out in the high 90's.
Thanks for the input. I really wanted to hear someone else that has gone with the Edge Evo. Any comments good or bad about the Evo?
There are very good reviews on the Edge Evo which is a great product.
Another option is the Gryphon from Power Hungry Performance. It is a custom tuned Edge Evo...and they can custom tune your vehicle. Personally I like custom tunes over the canned ones from people like Edge or Superchips
One note....don't forget that speed limiter was put there for a reason....there are many things on these trucks not designed for high speed...ie. the stock tires do not have the correct speed rating.
Getting off topic here guys. Just to shut up the kook with the mustang (not sure why they're even on this thread to begin with)....I've lowered the trucks suspension and have 22's with higher performance tires with the intention of making it get up and go. Already have a cold air intake......in the market for dual exhaust and also planning on putting on a supercharger eventually which along with some other mods will eat up 80 - 90% of all mustangs on the road (If not more).
I've always been a truck guy and will eventually buy a sports car as a weekend driver for kicks. However, it won't be anything a mustang will be able to even be in the same discussion with. That's a whole other talk show!

Thanks again!
Trucks aren't for racin'. Get a chain and hook bumpers and drag his toyota around the block a few times.

An F150 will hit maybe 85 mph in the quarter mile, which is telling me that you are doing your "Darwin award competition" on the street. Your BIL and you are entitled to compete for your own Darwin awards, but I hope to God that you never encounter a car pulling out of a blind side street or driveway, or a cyclist/pedestrian. May you encounter a pissed off traffic cop with a radar/laser first.
This may be the old fogey in me but I have to agree with FordTruckMan and YoGeorge; racing has no place on the streets. It's just too dangerous. If you want a pissing contest with your BIL, please do it in the restroom. They have even thoughtfully provided urinals there for your convenience.
That being said, you are driving a truck, albeit a light one. It's not designed for speed racing; it's design to haul loads. If you and your BIL had a thousand pounds loaded onto your vehicles, how do you think he would fare?
I beg to differ! Trucks may not have originally been built with the intensions of racing or going fast, but they can definitely be turned into a racing machine. Guess nobody watches the truck series but me.
As for the *** who commented with Darwin references. Did I say I was racing in neighborhoods or city streets? Stop making assumptions and go checkin with the nurse at the front desk.....I hear the price is right is coming on just before your nap.

Okay, so perhaps YoGeorge and Lady F are assuming too much.
Where (which track or drag strip) do you race?
We have a lot of Florida members, I'm sure they would appreciate the information.

You're not cracking 90 mph on a 1/4 mile dragstrip, so you have to be doing it on a public road somewhere unless you have access to a closed airstrip or something. If you are advocating going over 100 on ANY public highway, you are breaking the law bigtime. I'd at least recommend you do it in a car that can go around a corner and stop quickly. How many feet does your truck take to stop from 60? 70? 100?
You can turn any vehicle into a "racing" machine, but a 6000 lb truck is a 6000 lb truck. If you want something fast, build ya a tube frame NASCAR truck, which is less similar to your truck than a Corvette is.
I ain't a noob and will admit that in my early years, I did my share of drag racing, on public roads, in a 426 Hemi Roadrunner and other muscle cars that were *genuinely* fast. I wound out my Corvettes to see what they could do as well. And I shudder to think of what would have happened if I'd earned my own Darwin award... I moved the operation to the local drag strips and still have some rusty tin trophies and time slips.
