I'm considering a new exhaust for the 00 Expedition I purcahsed last week. The stock exhaust is just too quiet for my taste. I want to hear the power and might of the 5.4 Ford!
I saw that Summit has a SI/SO 3" system Force II system with a polished tip for $325.00.
Does anyone have this system and what do you think about it? I'm concerned that it will be too quiet, especially going through the converter. I don't want it obxniously loud, but I want to hear it.
Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated. I'm not interested in other exhaust brands. I've been a flowmaster or MAC man since my 5.0 Mustang days.
flowmasters just make noise they don't do much as far as performance. that and on fords at around 2000 rpm they resonate and drone. i had MAC exhaust on my explorer 5.0L and mustangs and like them http://www.macperformance.com/store/...ategory_ID=824
The flowmaster sounds like an old beater v-8 with a blown out muffler, magnaflow sounds nicer.
I don't think flowmaster owners will agree to that. It's a matter of personal tastes, so those who are after an aggressive tone goes for flowmaster and they can sound really good at idle and high rpm's whereas magnaflow is more of a deep tone. However, the 10 series is just tooooo.... aggressive, nothing comes near it!
I also have disliked flowmaster so much that I have removed perfectly good mufflers to get rid of that obnoxious sound
For $120 I had a magnaflow welded in place of the stock muffler and it sounds perfect. It is plenty loud enough to drown out the MT tires and sounds great when you get on it.
thought id throw my .02 cents in, i personally do not like flowmasters for one reason and one reason only. every tom, dick, and harry around my area puts a flowmaster on their truck. they all sound the same, they drone horribly, and honestly to me they really arent that aggressive of a sound compared to other setups. they do make best sound at idle and loose sound up top. Now me personally i have always favored an exhaust that had a good noticable tone at idle and low engine speeds as well as an aggressive loud screaming tone and high WOT speeds. Best setup ive had for this perticular sound came from a 2.5in thrushweld glass pack.
I'm not usually in this part of the forum, but I saw the Flowmaster thread and had to give my 2 cents. Flowmaster sucks for the irritating drone and for performance. I can't stand chambered mufflers. I like straight through mufflers. I even still like glasspacks. I actually almost put some of the longer ones on my truck. I run Magnaflow on my truck now and think it sounds perfect. I know my truck is not the same generation as your trucks, but I think that its still relevant.
To the comment about removing perfectly good mufflers to get rid of the sound, I have removed brand new dronemasters more than once to get rid of it.
I would advise buying the muffler you want to run and having and exhaust shop install it and route the tips where you want them. It will fit better than the prefab stuff.
