Cold Air Intake on a 460?

I'm about to lift my truck, and I know I'm going to lose some power. Seeing as going from 9 mpg to 7 doesn't sound attractive, I'm looking to get some power back. I found a K&N Filter (1992 Ford F-250 S&B Cold Air Intake - Best Price & 290+ Reviews on S&B CAI Carb Approved Air Intake Systems & Kits) that looks like it should do the trick. Any experience with putting a cold air intake on a 460, or any opinions? Also, I was thinking of a more free-flowing exhaust. I looked around and found this Flowmaster Kit (Flowmaster 17198 Flowmaster Force II Tuned Cat Back Exhaust Systems - Trucks) and have heard good things about it. Any opinions on that? Also, the family's lucky enough to have money not be an issue, so I'm not worried or wondering about price to much.

Anything helps.

Jake

Biggest air restriction is the intake horns.
They are in between the 2 sets of hoses.
You have hoses from the air filter box to a block and then from the block to the throttle body.
Take that block out and CUT the holes out

Recently, Testand Corporation conducted an ISO standards test on automotive air filters which can be viewed at this link: http://www.dieselbombers.com/chevrol...r-testing.html. All I can say is this explains in detail the reason for

The reason I started this crusade was that I was seeing people spend a lot of money on aftermarket filters based on the word of a salesperson or based on the misleading, incomplete or outright deceiving information printed on boxes and in sales literature. Mufflers- a stright through design is the best...no matter who makes it.

Given the age...check the cat...it might be partially clogged, O2 sensor tired/lazy....likely culprits.

Brad, I always wondered what that box was for... and Beechkid, after all those graphs and such, basically it's saying that a strait through muffler is the best way to go? And I've been needing to check my cat.... just haven't gotten around to it lol

Lots of performance/mileage info on the 460 sub forum.
I just cut my air horns off. Here's what it looks like before, 2nd picture is of how much it's restricted....

Didn't really notice a power increase, but it was free.

My next step will be the timing bump, another cheap mod I learned about on this forum & after that I'm gonna get serious with a set of headers, free flow catalytic converters & mufflers, which, from what I've read will really wake my truck up.

Wait.... so from looking at those 2 pics, what do I cut? I'm away from my truck right now so I can't exactly just go look.... Also, is that rubber hosing or metal? It looks like both.

Sorry, don't know why I didn't take an "after" photo.

It's easy to tell where to cut once you get apart.
See the two lines between the air box & the two horns in the top photo?
That's where I cut, just so you can still clamp on the intake hoses & the holes are at the same diameter going in & out.

That's just a couple of hoses & some sort of filter on the bottom.
I do have a picture of it from upside down that shows it better.....

Replacement Part

Does anyone know the actual name of the "bell" or "silencer" part? Mine cracked where the vacuum tube from the idle control connects to it and I want to buy another one.

Thanks
