Rear Sway Bar

I'm thinking about a Hellwig rear sway bar for my 2010 XLT 5.4. Has anyone felt the need to put one on or just tried one for better control? Its a Super Cab and I've gotten more comments with this truck than any one I've had.

Good question. I had a '96 with sway bars front and rear. Heavy duty sway bars are about the best way I know of to improve a vehicles handling. I've been looking into this a little myself.

Im leaning more towards Hellwig because theirs is 1 1/8" thick and Belltechs is 1". But Im sure that either be be a huge difference.

Don't waste your money on a Hellwig rear bar. I can't say for sure that it wont be a benefit on the 09/10 trucks. But the one I had on my 07 was a complete waste of money. An added insult, Hellwig mounts with the bar facing toward the spare tire. The end link on the passenger side takes up the same space as a performance cat-back tail pipe does. If you want to improve your handling, spend your money on a set of Bilstein's, not one of these bars.

SVT, I'm sure you understand that sway bars are designed to pick up the inside wheel as the body rolls in a curve. Normally they work very well. Do you think the rear springs are too stiff for the for the sway bar to function? I don't want to waste money for no benefit.

I would think the reason the bar didn't offer any real improvement is due to the overall stiffness of the frame and suspension. That's just my 2 cents. (and yes, I'm very aware of the function of bars in a suspension, I spent many years road racing my Cobra)

Bars make a huge difference on heritage body style trucks, but I thought it was a waste on my 07. Maybe you'll find it to be different.

I don't know if the bar from a 07 would fit a 09/10, but if you live near NH. You can have the one I'll never use. I had zero luck trying to sell it and figure it will end up in the scrap metal bin at the dump before too long.
