Lightning 4X4

Ok I just recently bought a 1996 F150 4x4 6cyl with 61,000 mile. I bought it to be my normal daily driver, and want to screw it up now.

My idea is to put a set of 17" Lightning Wheels with like a 35" tire maybe a Toyo or similar, but very road friendly and a lil meaty.

I have searched here and on google for a pic and can only find that bronco with street tires. I think i will have to turn down the center for the 4x4 hub but other than that don't foresee any major setbacks

Does any one know of any?
Does any have a pic?

oh I think I will have to put some kind of spacer in the front to compensate for the offset... I think thats it

You said it!! 35's won't fit without a lift and you'll also have to address the gearing which may already be screwed up.

well I know a lift will be needed but have a solid axle and 4" springs just in case I get to crazy

but I may stay with a 33" tire

I have access to a few sets of gears laying around
4.11
4.56
and 5.43's
so gears is the least of my worries

I really am lookin to see if anyone has done it yet to see how it looks.

I think the lightning wheels are only like 8" wide so i can't go to big on tires either way

I like that 79! It looks awesome, except for the 92-96 mirrors.

I think that a lifted 4wd version of a 1st Gen Lightning looks goofy. I have seen 2 of them before. There was one on Ebay a while back that was a real Lightning that someone ruined. The one on Ebay was a real one and the other was a clone like your talking about.

I
I know on this bronco they converted to 2wd but think it would dam sweet with some 33's and a minor leveling kit

I really wasn't trying to copy the lightning with the grille or lower valance. Just wanted the wheels on a set of 33's or 35's

I have always like the wheel style and a sorta factory look

I guess i may be partial since I used to have a 95 white Lightning and this truck is white also

Just trying to get ideas to look at....

That Bronco was not likely converted to 2wd. I believe they actually made 2wd Broncos.

I think that Bronco looks awesome like it is. I don't know about the lifted Lightning look. It would be different, and it would look custom with out looking like someone threw a bunch of crappy accessory parts on it. If you like the idea, then go for it.

If your going to do it, I would go 4 inch lift and 33s.

I love the Lightning wheels too. I had thought about putting them on my truck a while back.

I know I have seen 2wd Broncos before.

i'm pretty sure they didn't make 2wd Broncos and know for a fact that this one was converted over to 2wd

I have most of the pics from the how to thread over on NLOC.NET

Maybe I'm wrong about the 2wd Broncos being factory. I know I have seen them. Maybe they were converted. Wasn't it actually made by SVT? I think they made 2 of them. My friend was talking about them a while back.

Those are the pictures I saw. That bottom one was the one I saw on Ebay. Is that 2 different ones or is it the same truck?

I say thumbs down for that real one. I wish I would have had it before they ruined it.

On the other hand, he is talking about a clone, so its not the same as that. I don't see any harm in it. I just think it looks wierd.

Those Bronco Lightnings are sweet, but I don't like the wheels on that one, too blingy

Yes its the same truck. Top ones were before it was sold and turned into the bottom one. Poor truck..

I would trade my truck in a heartbeat for a Lightning/Bronco.
I really like the 20" Harley truck wheels. I was wanting some for my truck
