OVERFILLED CRANKCASE

I have just done an oil change on my 2006 PSD and overfilled the crankcase. The oil is reading about 3/8" above the max fill line. Can I leave this as is without damaging anything? Not adverse to draining some but a bit of PITA factor. Thanks!

you should be fine sounds like its only about a qt over.
most likly what happened is you did not remove the oil filter before draing the oil.
when changing the oil you must first remove the filter then the drain plug.

Rob, consider getting a Fumoto drain valve, easy to tap off a bit in a situation like this. Don't ask how I know...

I would drain some out so that it shows within the proper range ...there's a reason that the stick has a maximum mark.

I'm with Steve, even though it's a pain in the butt I would drain the excess. I have heard of too many reports of overfilled crankcases leading to leaks and oil foaming. There many be nothing to these reports but my opinion is why take a chance.

Oh yeah, and there have been statements on here that you can do it without much mess by sticking a shop vac hose down your oil fill tube, then pull the drain plug, then quickly shut off the shop vac to drain some, then shop vac on and replug...but I think that is all an urban myth.

Its done. A bit of a mess but now have the oil level within operating range (and piece of mind). Thanks all for replys. Can a fumoto be purchased at a retail outlet or only online/UPS?
