Oil Overfill

I had some problems with a 96 F250, which I thought were fuel problems. The fuel filter was clogged and the housing leaking so I replaced the whole filter assy. I then changed the oil and got sloppy and overfilled the crankcase maybe about 3/8inch over the mark. I kept having trouble with the engine quitting after running for a few minutes. I drained some oil to the mark and now it seems to run fine. I thought I heard that overfilling aerates the oil and causes issues. Is this correct?

Thanks

over filling it that much would most likely not cause any issues.
Though its interesting that it didnt' want to run till you drained some out...

I don't see a little more oil making any difference in how its running at all.

as for areation, thats usually caused by using poor quality oil in your rig.

If he puts in too much oil it will fill the crankshaft and the oil will get whipped up into a marshmallow like foam. The viscosity will be gone and it won't lubricate well. It can stop air from going where it needs to go and overheat the oil. Then the oil pressure will drop to shlt. Subsequently, if the engine doesn't have lube it needs it's going to seize.

All he's gotta do is drain out a little of that oil. Probably put an extra quart in. It's always better to underfill than it is to overfill.

I do not disagree with this statement.
