Difference in power pup vs triple dog??

What is the main differences with them? I bought a GT and don't like it...same crappy problems as everyone else is saying, tranny shifting so I took it off. I thought about a SCT tuner but can get this exchanged for a PP or TD...and the PPs are only $100......SOOOO.... Is the TD worth the extra couple 100....all I really care about is helping with mileage a little and some HP boost...but I don't need alot. I don't race or anything......but I do pull a trailer on occasion...so I would like to be able to adjust it.....

Opinions anyone......

You're not going to like the PP or the TD then, because it is the same tuning that on your GT. The only big difference between the TD and PP is that the TD also has tunes for the Dodge diesels and the Chevy/GM diesels(Ford/Dodge/Chevy is the triple in Triple Dog). However, it is all the same tuning that is on the individual PP for all those trucks though.

Adjust on the fly is not good if you have a 6.0. The TS needs to be properly tuned and you do not get that with Shift on the Fly modules/"Tuners"(I put tuners in quotes here because the TD and PP doesn't really tune the vehicle).

Let me ask you this: is the little bit of money your shelling out now worth the exponential raise in risk of damaging your tranny worth it versus getting something that actually program the tranny?

I had the triple dog and the tranny didn't like the shifting in either street or the extreme setting. Shift on the fly was cool for awhile, but towards then end, it really just stayed in one spot as it was.

If you're going to do this, save up and do it right. Otherwise, I would say don't do it at all.

gotcha Tex and thanks for the info, I appreciate it. Reason I asked about the PP is I got the PP and GT same day from same person. The PP got installed on a 08 F150 with 5.4 and he has had zero problems...runs right, shifts right etc etc.

The GT on the other hand has been nothing but problems on shifting....everything else has seemed right other than that....and in reading here thats what everyone else's problem was is the shifting.

So would I be better off going with a SCT I think it was....I got the GT cause it was bought for me but I can sell it and get a SCT or whatever people recommend for the Fords....

Thank you.

I like the looks of the GT, it does look like a cool device. But the tranny shifting is indeed an issue. Not for everyone, but it is for some people. One of the problems with not only shift on the fly, but also with off the shelf tuning. Too bad you just couldn't set it to "zero" and just use it as gauges or can you? I'm used to the Outlook Monitor and it did have a setting that you could use it with another tuner, but I don't know if they still have that option for the GT. Well, now that I think about it, doesn't BullyDog have a gauges only version of the GT? Kinda like Edge with the Insight?

Yes they do...its called the WatchDog....

Main reason I am wanting a tuner is basically for mileage...I don't do alot of heavy footing although a little HP boost now and then comes in handy...but mainly 99.9% for mileage....

I will say this, I'm actually against the notion of using tuners for mileage for a couple of reasons.

1. They are performance enhancers first and foremost.

2. Way way way too many variables that go into MPG that you cannot control for and even if you do see MPG improvement it is really going to be very hard to pinpoint it to the tuner alone.

It would be far better both realistically and mentally to do this for performance first and if you see gains great that's icing on the cake. If you don't, then darn but it's still tolerable because you didn't do add it for the main reason of MPG.

If you look at how the companies word it on their ads, typically they say that "some customers have noted increase in mileage." Leaving it wide open for some that don't get extra mileage(for whatever the reason).

If your doing it 99.9% for mileage, I would actually try to see how you do with changing up with the right foot. Of course, you also have to realize that if you already have a feather foot, you might have actually maxed out what you can get out of the ole girl with your setup and environmental conditions.

I'm sure that's not what you wanted to "hear", just my take on things for what it's worth. The fun factor will go up with having the SCT though.
