PCV valve configuration

From Haynes manual and other FTE threads it seems like the body of the PCV valve should be fit directly into a grommet in the rocker cover to receive the blowby gases.
Looks like mine is connected into a hose (with hose clamp), and its the other end of this hose which which feeds into the rocker cover. Its a "fat" hose -maybe 1 inch od- about several inches long. On the other (elbowed) end of the PVC valve, everything looks normal and the 3/8 hose connects onto a nipple on the intake manifold.
I've owned the truck for 1 1/2 years ..don't know if this could be the factory config or a custom job. Trying to find out all I can before doing any work on PCV system..considering rerouting to the vacuum tree in the middle of the manifold instead of near cylinder #8, as mentioned in another thread.
Thanks,

PCV valve configuration
My '91 Bronco was the same way. I went to the parts store and got 2 feet of 3/8 hose and ran that form the pcv valve to the tree. I THOUGHT that I had a vacuum cap for the back of the intake manifold but found (like you) that the 3/8 cap wasn't going to work. I kept the hose on the back of the intake and stuck a bolt in the open end using a hose clamp to secure it(it's hidden behind the intake manifold)

My '95 is the same way. When I asked about it everybody said it couldn't be stock. I would bet it is, or was a very common "adaption" done by dealers when someone brought in a vehicle for a new PCV valve.

Thanks all ... I was attempting to post a digital image when my camera charged up, but steve83 beat me to it! Mine looks just like that.... so it seems necessary to check that hose, as well as the PCV valve, during maintenance and replace as needed. Guess Ford should carry both the PCV valve and molded hose in parts.
Is there a grommet or some type of fitting for the molded hose to fit into the rocker cover, as well? I haven't poked around there yet ...
Thanks again

Imagine trying to replace the PCV valve regularly with that plenum in the way if that tubing wasn't there. If you can imagine people thinking to replace their PCV valves regularly...

The bottom of the hose slips onto a 90° plastic nipple that's pinned between the plenum & valve cover. You should be able to work the hose off by pulling toward the passenger doorway, but don't break the elbow or you'll be pulling the plenum to replace it.
