I'll be pulling with my '02 4x4 crew cab for the first time this weekend. My question is that I'm only going to be pulling a very small Jayco pop-up camper. There will 4 adults in the cab along with a generator in the back. My truck is 100% stock............. Sould I pull with OD off? I'll be traveling from NE Arkansas to just east of Tulsa OK. No mountains and 90% interstate. What do you guys think. This is my 2nd week to own the truck so that's why I asking these silly to most questions. I'd appreciate some advice!
I am no trans specialist like Mark K but I read alot on here and I trust these folks. You should keep the o.d. on unless it starts hunting for gears.Jumping in and out of o.d. then you can leave it out untill the grade is climbed or on flat land.Hope this helps
Congrats on the truck and welcome to FTE. Got all those fluids changed or checked before you embark on your journey?? What the guys said, roll with it, in OD that is..
Yep, I think she's ready to roll! Truck that is. Not sure about the wife yet?
Good deal, just seen now your other post about oil and such. Have a safe trip and when you get a chance, post up some pics of your truck, we all like pics..
I pull a 30'. Typically I leave the O.D. on unless I'm climbing a steep grade. I watch my RPMS and transmission temperature. More than likely you will forget the trailer is back there. With that said make sure you keep an eye on those little camper tires.
I leave my trans in OD anytime I pull. If I start going up a steep enough grade the trans will automatically shift down into a lower gear. I wonder if this is the reason they call it an automatic?
I leave the OD on in my truck when pulling my 9100 pound trailer. If it starts shifting in and out of overdrive I'll turn it off. The only time that happens is if I'm in rolling hills at about 55 MPH.

Not fair Rick, your's won't break. And if it does, it's a free replacement. Of course, you paid for that luxury
To the OP, you will not even know the pop-up is behind you unless it's bigger than any pop-up I've ever seen.
