I've heard talk of a few mods that sound interesting but am unclear on how to execute or the benefit of them. The first one is swapping out 6 cylinder air-box for your v-8. Any info or tips on this would be great. Also I've heard talk of making my 'dummy' oil pressure gauge into a 'real' one, is this possible? Also, I plan on a rebuild soon with a new cam and some headers but any other 'easy' horsepower/torque mod suggestions are welcome! Thanks!
My truck is a '91 F-150 with a 5.8 and an E4OD with the AIR injection removed, other than that, it's basically stock right now.
I have been told the Oil pressure gauge on the Fords is able to read pressure just use a sending unit from an older truck, say 1985 with a manual gauge. Cheap and worth a try.
The only places I know that you can get one are Ebay which sometimes has them. Sometimes its hard to find one because not every seller knows how to list it so you have to search all types word combinations. The other place is a salvage yard.
salvage yard is by far the best place i got mine for 5 bucks at a pull it yourself there all over the place down here in NC. I6 f150s are everywhere in the salvage yards.
There is a oil pressure guage modification you can do the make your" idiot" gauge work like it should. On the back side of your instrument cluster inline with the oil gauge there is a 20ohm resistor. Just jumper it out(short it) and replace your sending unit with one from a 87 or older truck. I have done this mod to my 89 F250,89 Bronco2 and 95 E350. Works every time, but the factory guage is not as accurate as a real one, but better than the "idiot" guage! At least I now see the guage moving lower at idle with engine warm. The "idiot" guage would show mid ways as long as the oil pressure was over 7psi or so.

It is hard to find used truck parts in my location. Local recyclers move their "inventory" quickly.
