Well I'm not sure if this is normal but my truck rather than smoke black like others my truck will smoke whiteish blue? and I don't know why, previous owner ran home heating oil in it if that makes a difference, also I did SOUPBOWL mod today!! yay! haha but there was wet oily residue in there? kind of scared me, my truck does not smoke alot by any means but I am really curious, truck had about half tank of heating oil in It I drove it and burned as much out until it was almost empty then filled it up at the gas station and put about 3 doses of deisel kleen in it (I always ran this in my 6.0 and liked it) but no difference I have only driven 50 miles sine fill up so hopefully its working its way out, please comment on what could be happening, thanks
my truck, before it blew up, would smoke a little blue at idle. blue smoke is oil being burnt. also when i did the soupbowl mod i had the oily residue too...i dont know what the heating oil has done though...hope fully nothing and you can get the blue to go away. i just wanted to let you know that you are not alone on this one
right in front of the GPR but behind that metal grate where the filter housing sits? if I am correct at this I would like to add that there was quite a high amount of soot on it/ around it, can I get a new one from ford or can I go to napa or advanceauto parts? but most importantly what is this engine components purpose? and how is it allowing oil to burn?
It's the diesel version of a PCV valve, it allows crankcase fumes to be consumed by the engine instead of released into the atmosphere. There is a spring and diaphragm inside, and as the rpms increase, the suction of the engine is supposed to pull it closed stopping the motor from sucking oil out of the crankcase. It is normal for some oil mist to pass through and accumulate around it. If the diaphragm is torn or it gets full of crud, it wont function and will increase your oil consumption, possibly resulting in the motor running away/overspeeding and killing itself. Soak the CDR in some gas, slosh it around and try to get it clean then let it air dry. If you blow into the small hole on the back and feel air come out one of the larger holes, then your CDR is bad.
