Hello,
I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. I read through the first 9 pages in this section and couldn't find anything close to my problem with the search option.
My 2001 F150 has the 4.2 V6 and automatic. 14 bolts holding trans pan. I noticed a shudder when accelerating and the trans seams to be trying to upshift through the gears 1-2-3-OD way to fast. You barely notice the shifts. I tryed to watch the tach which doesn't get to 2000 rpm before any shift. It goes for OD by 35 mph.
I had the power flush done every 30K. The truck has 96K. I don't have a Haynes book yet and don't know what triggers the trans shifts in this model. I wonder if it's a small sensor problem or a real trans issue. The fluid seams very clean.
While I can't tell you what is wrong, the transmission is shifted electically by the computer according to a combination of road speed, engine RPM, load and throttle position plus some timing intervals.
You need the services of a good shop to determine the transmission conditions for the issue.
There are 5 electric valves involved.
There might be codes telling what the issue involves.
Good luck.
Just throwin' this out there--I know little about automatics and like them less (no offense). But did you put taller tires than stock on, perhaps? Have you confirmed the rear end ratio?
The tire size is stock. Other than preventative maintainance nothing has been modified on the vehicle. I've had this truck since new. It wasn't my choice to get an automatic. I prefer manual trans in everything I own.
