Hi everyone, can you use an 86 carb. intake, 95 dual exaust, on a 95 head? its what im trying to do now, just wondering if anyone has done it, or have any tips. Thanks ahead of time.
I have never done it, but since nobody has jumped in on this one.....
The manifold should bolt right up. In the area of the intake/exhaust ports, the only difference that I am aware of is the later FI heads have 2 extra bolt holes for the FI exhaust manifolds. I think the flange thickness of the carb manifold is the same (or close enough) to the thickness of the FI exhaust manifold, but you can check that pretty easily.
There's three extra bolts (13 vs 16) on the EFI head, but they're only there for ease of installation. Carb was one piece when both manifolds were bolted together, EFI was three pieces to balance and hang, so anything to speed it up saved money on the assembly line.
In situations like this though, they're trivial, so no need to worry about leaks, etc.
Manifold flanges are the same thickness.
It'll bolt right on with out any issues. The only difference is that the 95 head has internal combustion chamber characteristics designed for fuel injection that may interfere with perfect tuning. Not sure what they are exactly, or how they affect it, since I've never dealt with it personally. There're threads on it though.
One thing to think about: unless you have all the original equipment, that 86 carb is a feedback type and needs the computer, plus the emissions equipment in place to run right and is, for the most part, non-tunable. You'd probably do better with a pre-feedback carb (around 83 and prior).
