Hey guys i have a 1984 F250(kinda a F350 now). I put a 10" flat bed and a ford 10.25 dually axle with 4.10s on it. I also put a 1991 ford idi 7.3l with a banks turbo kit(c-6 auto still) . But my problem is that i cant really go over 55-60 mph cause the motor starts to run really hot like 210-230 and it revs like crazy Anyway i was wondering about have a shop install a 5 speed or 6 speed trany in my mult year truck.
well i checked my fan by reving the motor up and the air movement increased from the fan. i found a guy to convert it to a 5 speed for 1500 bucks at a trans shop should i go for it?
4.10's with a diesel and no overdrive would rev high. my truck is screaming at 65 or 70 with those gears. An OD trans (ZF!) would be the ticket...I want one.
I don't do automatics in trucks ... PERIOD! I dislike them mucho.
Diesel 4wd ZF5's are not cheap and hard to find, 2wd's are dime a dozen. At least around here.
IMO that's high for a 2wd, low for a 4wd.
However, for the headache, it could be well worth it, especially if they have all the factory components like drive lines, pedal assemblies, master/slave cylinders, cross members, etc... If they have to make up drive lines I would be wary, ensure they have the proper equipment to do them.
Alright well im going to go with the swap i mean ive called everywhere and everyone wants like 2500-3000 dollars so 1500 bucks aint to bad!!!!. Especially coming from a trans shop!! .
i really think that im reving the **** out of the motor and causing it to overheat. when i had 3.55 ratio in it the thing really never went over 170 unless i was screaming aroung 80-90mph!!!!(thats scary in a old truck BTW) P.s ill have some pics up in like two days.
ok thanks for the info guy like i said ill have pics and ill update ya'll when i get it all done and yes ill make sure its the diesel trany thats going on lol!!!!
thanks festus i never tryed to run it at gov fir 5 mins or anything like that. well i did rev it up that high once and the heater core hose came flying off the block lol (untighted clamp oops) anyway How would i check the fan the right way and how and i hook up one of those techs you can buy from the parts store like autozone
