I have a 2004 Excursion 6.0 4x4. After driving for a while stop and go around town. I will pull to a stop and when I push the accelerator to go nothing happens it just idles. I have a Banks 6gun installed with the IQ monitor and it gives me a code of 0299 turbo underboost. It doesn't matter what power setting I'm on with the banks. it even does it on the stock setting of #1. Does anyone know what's going on? What part would be the best to replace first. or should I just take it to the dealership. I'm not even sure the ford house would work on it with the Banks system on it. I don't want to start chunking parts at it if I can help it. that gets really expensive fast.
I did remove the banks system and it ran good for a while and then it went dead throttle again. it seems to happen more often when I do a WOT run. but it has done it with normal driving also. I'm guessing it something with the VGT valve or the throttle sensor. I have no idea where to start without spending tons of cash. Would a VGT clear/relearn maybe help.
im gonna say the harness are about $700 for the pair. figure about 10 hours labor to run the harness. the glowplug module is a $300.
so thats $2000.
what are they doing to the turbo? If they are replacing it there are better and cheeper options. the turbo is $1600+core from ford
if they clean it it should be about $400. if they replace the chra it could run to about $1200.
They got a code (forgot what it was), cleared it and it came back. They told me the turbo was sticking and needed to be cleaned and new seals. $600.00 was the quote. I paid for extended warrenty and the electrical stuff was not covered under the plan but the turbo is. Still love the truck.
Just finished installing a new 4in exhaust system and it so far has fixed the problem. I've driven it for two days now and no problems with dead accelerator. guessing the restricted air flow had something to do with it.
