e-brake repairs thread?

OK, so I've been searching around and I can't seem to find it, forgive me, but does anyone have a link or a how to on doing e-brake repairs, how to tighten the e-brake, something like that. I and another guy need to do some e-brake work.

Found this on the internet...
How do you adjust the parking brake of a 2001 f350?

Parking Brake Repair

Answer

First make sure the service brakes are adjusted properly
Adjustment will either be at the junction of the 3 cables under the vehicle or at the pedal itself
Set pedal at 3 clicks and the wheels should be locked at that point ...
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would guess if your e brake is not holding, you probably need new e brake pads.. Remove rear rotors to replace pads if needed if the adjustment mentioned above does not cure the problem..

There is a star adjuster that you can use a flat blade screwdriver to turn, kind of like the adjusters used for drum brakes in the 'old days'. The longer you make the assembly, the closer the shoes are put towards the inner part of the rotor. Check to see if your wheels seals have leaked grease onto the shoes also. If you adjust it too much, you will break the cable...

There is an 'access' rubber gromett on the bottom of the dust shield area. Pop the gromett out and use a flat blade to turn the star wheel adjuster. If you want pics let me know!

Yea, that would be great. I take it that this grommet is on the back of the wheel?

Sorry it took so long. See below

There you can see what you are adjusting

There is the gromett.

The access hole is between the two nuts/studs which hold the bracket to the axle. Right in front of the caliper.

Make sure you don't have your e brake engaged when adjusting and use chocks.

huh, no self adjusters? Well that sucks. Looks pretty easy to rebuild though.

That'd be sad there's no self adjustment. IIRC my '66 Mustang had a self-adjusting parking brake.

There really shouldn't be a need for self-adjusters to "keep them adjusted", as they should never wear enough to need it.

Unless you forget they are applied and drive on them, there's no material ever removed.

They are applied, or they are free. Shouldn't be much "in between".

Even the older drum brakes, that incorporated the park brake into the service brakes, needed an initial manual adjustment.

Not completely true. My wife's van has drums on the back and you just simply put them in loose, start the van and start pumping, they will automatically adjust.
