Depends on WHY it's on.

You have either a parking brake switch operated, out of adjustment or the brake fluid level it too low.
This is why the light is on to tell you.
Check it out.
Good luck.

Certain ABS faults will also set the BRAKE light on.

First, check your brake fluid level. Maybe the light is trying to tell you something important.

Second. Disconnect the fluid level sensor. If the light goes out, there's a problem with the float switch.

Third. Check the switch to see if it's stuck in the position where the ebrake lever engages it when the ebrake is applied. On my 01, the switch was barely visible looking along the inside of the trim panel. Mine was sticking when I got this 01 four years ago, a shot or two of brake cleaner followed by some WD40 fixed it.

You'll have to explain by what mechanism the VSS could cause the red BRAKE light to come on...

Wasn't a Ford, but my old dodge had the park brake and abs lights come on and the issue was the vss. Phoqued up I know but thats the what happened. Speedo and tach were fine, truck also began stalling whenever I slowed down which was also remedied with the replacement of that single little sensor in the rear diff.

Well, bucko, if you don't have a flippin' clue how something works, you'd do best by not putting your foot in your mouth and proving Mr Twain to be correct.
