So I have a truck in my stall thats got the oddist failer I have seen to date.
Dtc's for glowplugs 3,5,2,8. truck clatters and runs very poor. the power balance test looks like Charlie Browns shirt \/\/\/\/\/ kinda pattern. perform a manuel copression test and find cyclinder 1,7,4,6 all have 385 psi, cyclinders with melted glowplugs all have about 200 psi.
anyone wanna give this a shot? I have a few idea's as to why.
Is it the EGR problem I've heard about on the 6.4s or was that the earlier 6.0.
Another thing I heard today was the earlier 6.0 wasn't doing to good due to the ULSD and the EGR problem. Since 2005 though the 6.0 from what a guy from work said is a real good engine due to they worked most of the issues out of it by then.
Just a thought is all as I have a 7.3 and will be hanginig on to that for a while especially since it's paid for.
What about the cap on the fuel injectors for the 6.4 heard they're not a great design.
I really don't mean to ramble on what I've heard but info and learning is all good.
I work on jet engines so their is some similiarities as basic operation.
a little off topic. but the 6.0 is a great engine. all current diesel's that I know of are having issues related to ulsd. its causing everything from fuel leaks to dead injectors.
the 06 and up is a great engine.
so far as an egr concern the worst would be a bent rod almost alway's #8

you are talking about the o-ring for the pizo stack. there is a knowen on that for some of the 08my ford has a handle on that with a recall.
The truck is a 09my and not in that production run. sorry my bad I of all people should know to include the year of the truck in a post.
interesting that if I a re-reading your postings it is two on each side that have the issues, I am sure it is tied in some how with that firing order sequence but just don't know enough about it.
So every other cylinder in the firing order has melted down.
Sounds like maybe defective trigger wheel on the crankshaft, bad CKP...maybe bad CMP?
I'm thinking something screwed up the PCM's controlling of the injectors in sequence, so it would have to be something related to injector control and timing...
cmp and ckp can not cause a piston, glowplug or injector tip to melt now can it?
a fuel problem would in and of itself would not cause every other cyclinder in the firing order to melt... at least I dont think in would.
I could see damage to a bank, or the front or rear cyclinder but thats just an odd pattern now is not?
I have never see a failer in this pattern. so I figured I would toss this to the group for info and thoughts. also to see how many come up with what I find and am finding.
