Your truck is a lot better off than a lot I have seen. I have seen some that you could have exited the truck through the floor boards. You can get replacement floor pans and lower door pillars. Just about any panel that is prone to rust on these trucks can be bought new. I certainly would not get rid of the truck for that small amount of rust.
I'm not getting rid of it, its actually going onto a new frame shortly (1976 4x4 frame) and I plan to have the rust fixed after it gets swapped over. I just wasnt sure if the rust was hard to fix or expensive.
I was very fortunate with my 65. It was a nearly rust free truck. The only rust issues was the bottom cab cross member on the ends, the front cab mounts, and the bottom of the core support. All was easily dealt with.
You could probably section in some floor pieces vs replace the entire pan on each side, might save you some work. Have you checked the cab mounts? The hinge pillar corner pieces are made by Carolina Classics and are very well made.
May want to check areas mentioned by ddavidv, it could become a major project. Having said that, I tend to favor rescuing these vintage treasures if at all possible. Intend trying to install floor pans in 64 vintage passenger car that was/is one step removed from the bone yard. Anyhow searched few sites and bookmarked magazine articles and FTE threads where member's posted pic's of their projects you may find helpful. Figure with MIG, and basic welding skills might as well give it a try, or at least make it a learning experience.
I am restoring a 65 f250 and i am working on the floor pans it has a weird kind of tecture on the medal it is bubbly it is kind of just rough but i don't know how bad the rust truly is i cant tell there is no wholes in it and it seem pretty sturdy just a lot of surface rust this is my first restoration. I am thinking of using a floppy sandpaper grinding disk on top and bottom then using por15 on both sides. Do you guys have any ideas of what i should do i don't want to replace them if i don't have to. thanks
The only way to get of rustout or bubble thru rust is to cut it out back to good metal and replace what you cut out or it will come back. Anything else you do will only hold it off temporarily. Sorry no silver bullet for rust.
Move the entire floor pan from the newer 4x4 verses patching the floor and replacing the cab mounts. Then patch the lower A pillar (patches are available). Do this with the cab off on its back supported at a comfortable working height. IMHO.
