cutting out 02 excursion.......
Bad Hoses
Yep, Both of the rubber hoses coming off the bottom of that fuel vapor sensor structurally failed on my Ex. The one is 1/2" and the other is 3/8". I believe that when the hoses got hot the hose wall would collapse and then the truck would loose power and not accelerate.
I have replaced both and my loss of power and inability to have the transmission shift have gone away. This fix has cost me $3.00.

ok did this today.... same problem after getting hot... and yes it actually gets worse as ya get hotter... supposedly the coil packs went to his house in longbeach so i havent had to mess with them yet.. he argues about the fuel pump so no use saying anymore to him about that... just have to wait till the coil packs get here and put them on...
so back to that emissions fuel vapor sensor i replaced the lines to.. can it go bad ? is it a one way valve to suck the fumes from the gas tank back into the engine to be burned ?????

thanks
OK i'm confused, no cats and still running the O2 sensors? Every vehicle i've taken cats out of required me to get dummy sensors to tell the computer the cats were still there so IT DIDN'T run like crap, with the benefits of the missing cats being improved exhaust flow. Could this possibly be the problem?
The factory spec for fuel pressure is 35-55psi. Have you checked the flow rate? Should be 19lbs/hr. Start with the basics, and cheapest, and replace the fuel filter first. Either way 30psi is too low and it needs a pump. I worked 15 years at Ford and have access to most shop manuals if you need ny more info. Funny thing is in all those years I never once saw an X in shop except for a pdi.

thx.. been telling him that but hes stuck on the COIL PACK thingys being bad.... we are doing a fuel filter today even though he says its only like a 100miles old....
so i put the fuel filter on and it was a DEF. NO GO !!!! figured i would kill 2 birds with one stone and took it over to the island to get the propane tanks and see if the filter helped... made it over ok but wholy crap was it bad coming back.... really 15mph was all i could get out of it at first. stopped and let it cool down for 15 mins then it ran OK for about 4 miles then went bad again.. was able to limp to bosses house slowly..... i could hear it backfiring thru the exhast etc.. when it was really bad.....
i figure it got better as i drove a bit since the gas was cooling down the pump in the tank but then steady driving let it heat up again.... we will see if hes gonna go the fuel pump route or not ......

Long shot but my Ex started running like crap- misfiring, stalling, no power, throwing up check engine lights. It ended up being the spark plugs. Changed the plugs and it ran fine. And the codes it was throwing had nothing to do with the ignition system, transmission sensor codes all kinds of random stuff but ran great once plugs were changed
At this point, he's already lost more money in lost time arguing than if he'd spent the money on a fuel pump, and had a good known fuel pump rather than his 8yr old current one. I'm not saying to throw parts at it, but with that pressure, we know it's just a matter of time before it goes.
i agree with all you guys... not my call what gets fixed. all i can do is relay the info youve given me. stupid thing is last time i checked the fuel pressure while this problem was happening it never changed. stayed at 30psi anytime this problem occured.
think ill check it again today and just stick around the house close by....

think ill check it again today and just stick around the house close by....i "think" i seen it drop to 22psi when it started going bad again but soon as i sut it off and let it sit a minute it was right back to 28/30psi...
LOL well we replaced the stick coils today.... no change.... hes finally seeing the light about the fuel pump... gonna have to figure out where to do it.... really kinda screwed me though cause on his test ride he filled the tank.... need to figure out how to drain it down. i figured a hose on fuel filter into gas can and turn truck on. let fuel pump do its job... ???
If you have a fuel pressure guage that also tests flow rate you can hook that up and leave it running with the valve open, but it's going to take a long time. Or you can get your boss to buy some sort of suction pump. And just a note, theskid plate alone weighs over 50lbs.
