This weekend I have to install my new front gas tank becuase of a pesky rust hole. Is the front tank hard to drop, I've used up all of the gas in it so I'm not concerned about weight. Does anything else have to be removed? Also, are you supposed to coat the gas tank with anything? Or do you just put it in?
I just took my front tank out on my 88. After i unplugged the fuel lines and filler neck just slide two jack stands under it on each end. Theres just the two straps holding it up with one bolt on each. Loosen them so the weight of the tank is on the jackstands. Then i took the straps off and had one of my buddys help get it out from under the truck. As far as the stop leak stuff im not sure, I just bought a new tank.
I went with new tanks in my truck as well, I don't trust the old rusty steel to have anything bond to it permanently and seal a leak good.
Front tank is easy to drop, I did mine with several gallons of fuel still in it (it's a diesel truck, I can't just run it down dry) and I'm by no means a big dude - having two jacks is nice, but your legs and knees can work just as good if you have a nice creeper to lay your back on
