I have a 2010 Harley edition, and since I bought it new in Feb my gas mileage has been terrible.I would also like to add I have babied this truck I even try to roll off the throttle going up hills to keep from downshifting and eating more gas.The best I have gotten is 12.4 on highway, and 12.1 when pulling a small utility trailer on the highway.I have an appointment on monday to check it,but I just don't get it.I see alot of people on here getting great gas mileage(to me anyway) 17-20 on the highway, and I don't understand what is going on with my truck.Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on?
How many miles do you have on the truck now? Open up the Air filter box, I 've heard sometimes the screen can be installed improperly, restricting airflow severely, causing poor mileage.

About 800 miles.I have an appointment for monday, but I just thought I would ask on here, because 12mpg on the highway ain't cutting it.
I have an 09 platinum and the best I have got was 14 mpg (canadian). i am not impressed as I have 6 friends with the same truck and they are getting 21-23 mpg. Something is wrong and ford doesnt seem to want to do anything about it. I have 18,000 km's on it and it hasnt got any better or any worse since new. I am getting frustrated!!
Just got a 2010 XLT 4x4 with the 5.4 and 3.55 rear end. First tank I filled up at the 500 mile mark and got 17.2. Up to 800 miles now and the mileage estimator is showing 19.8 mpg. Looks pretty close to that according to what the fuel gauge is showing. Mostly just driving around at 60 mph, nothing hard....
The motor and rest of the drive train isn't nearly broken in yet at 800 miles... I would try hand calculating mileage (the dash display is not very accurate) and put some miles on it. As long as it is running ok, there is not much you can do. check tire pressure (thought the TPMS should do that already), check fluids, and check the filter(s) like I said before.. All the moving parts need a little time to seat and wear in... It'll loosen up a bit and you should start seeing better MPGs...
Just re-read your initial posting... Read the owner's manual- You should not be towing anything yet, as you have under 1000 miles... States that specifically.
My truck was in the 11 to 13 MPG range for the first 5K miles then has gotten better as time goes on. Now at 34K, I get 17 MPGs unloaded and 13 MPGs loaded or towing. Chris

I only have towed a 4x6 trailer twice for about 40 miles.I never understood the "no towing for 1000 miles" thing. What if you bought a truck to be a work truck on the farm, you need to use it immediately.Lets say I buy F250 for my work do I drive to Florida and back on the weekend, just so I can do my job on monday? Not disagreeing with you,I just don't understand the Ford specifications for towing with a new truck.

FWIW, I bought a new 1990 Ford F250, 5 speed manual, 5.8 gas burner, 4.10 rear end in it. My neighbor bought one just like it a month later. I pulled an empty 6x20 livestock gooseneck trailer(4000 lbs.) for 400 miles when the truck only had 500 miles on it. That truck burned a qt of oil every 2500 miles until I sold it at 180,000 miles. My buddies truck never used a drop, and both were used for farming purposes. Coincidence, who knows. All I know is my new 2010 F150 WILL NOT tow a trailer until I have the 1000 miles on it. Ford states that in the manual in two different locations. Their truck, they should know......
It really has less to do with motor break in and more to do with breaking in the ring and pinion in the rear end these days... They need time to wear in or else you can have serious issues, or noisy operation at the least.
Heres a clue, you bought the truck in Feb. and only drove it 800 miles in 3 months.
To me that equates to alot of short trips of city driving.
Probably the worst combination for fuel mileage.
Ford doesn't recommend monitoring the mpg until the truck has over 10K on the clock. Check your owners manual on that one, they may have changed that a little since 2007.
I'm going to guess your Harley edition is all wheel drive. If so, that's likely the biggest factor for your lower mpg's. That and those 22's Ford puts on, don't make for a good mpg combination.
See what your dealer has to offer. They might find something or they may just give the old. It's a truck what do you expect BS. After the visit to the dealer, you could always disconnect the battery to purge the driving pattern that's been learned so far. That could help a little, but don't expect a lot.

Agreed. Mine was only getting 13.8 for the first 1000 miles now at 2,500 Im up to 15.8-16mpg with suburb driving. The more I drive, the better its getting.
Also, what are you going by? I reset my MPG indicator on the truck and found its reading pretty accurate.

Well, not really 400 or so of those miles was on one trip, and 120 on another highway trip. But yes for the other 100-150 it has been shorter trips, but still on the highway I'am getting 12.1-12.4mpg.
