Was the C6 the standard 3-speed transmission available in trucks and Econoline/E-Series vans; with the E40D being the available 4-speed transmission up until cir. 1996-1997?
Yes; I am aware of the E40D being nothing more than a C6 with a fourth forward speed and electronic shift controls, replacing the hydraulic control mechanism of the C6.
Beginning in the early 1990's when the E40D went into production; was it required to be had in tandem with the 385 archetecture 460 V8 in order to have that engine, or were you still able to order the then standard C6 with the 385 archectecture 460 V8?
The C6 was available through the end of the 1996 model year on E/F250 and up with the 5.8L, 7.5L (460,) and 7.3L diesel. Each of these engines were also available with the E4OD.
