Question about side gas tank.

My truck has a 16 gallon gas tank and i'm looking at replacing it with a 19 gallon side mounted tank would it directly strap up just like the 16 or would I have to do some moving to make room?

Look at this link,
Auto Parts and Discount Truck Parts at Car Parts Wholesale.com
I checked and they have the dimensions,
16 gal tank - 42-3/8 in. length; 14-3/8 in. width; 11 in. height;
19 gal tank - 58-7/8 in. length; 12-1/4 in. width; 12-1/2 in. height;
This is replacement for an 83 F-150 XL 351W, I used it for an example.

That would also be a big factor, Long bed vs Short bed.
The above tanks were for a long bed truck.

Yea I have a shortbed truck. 16 gallons seems so small for a 351w

The 19 gal tank *may* fit under a 2wd short bed, but there is not enough room under a 4wd short bed. The transfer case is in the way.

It will not fit, you have crossmembers in the way. I had a shortbed F-150 with a worked over 302 and 4 speed, it sucked gas especially when towing. Simple solution is get a rear tank. You can get factory 19 gal rear tanks that drop in (find another bed or modify yours) or aftermarket 39 gal rear tanks that only need longer tank straps and removing spare tire hanger.

Oh another option, if you don't already have an overdrive trans, swap one in. It'll make a difference if you do much highway driving.

Have you guys seen the rubber gas tanks they sell on Bronco Graveyard? I wonder how those hold up.
