Okay so I went out to crank it up this morning, and nothing electrical inside the cab works. The radio won't come on, glow plugs, brake controller, nothing. It will crank right up and run fine, but the radio and glow plugs won't come on. I recently replaced the alternator, voltage regulator, and glow plug relay, but this has been over a month ago. I had been noticing lately that the radio would cut off and come back on if you hit a big bump, but i though it was just a loose wire. Any body have any idea what could be wrong? Oh and the batteries are also fairly new. Oh and it is a 1985 F-250 with 6.9 Diesel.
I'm thinking the likely culprit to check first is the ignition switch. You'll be looking for the yellow wire with a black tracer to find your fault I think. Sometimes on these older trucks the switch can slide out of adjustment and act goofy too.
take a look at this connector. IIRC all the power to the cab goes through there, and the connecter can get dirty and corroded and melt and lose connection.
Okay so I let it sit a while and the glow plugs seem to be working again. I think the engine was just warn enough for them not to come on. Also noticed that the blinker, hi beams, brake light etc..were working. Now its just the radio and the brake controller. Is there a fuse or relay in the dash that goes just to the radio/lower dash?
