i have a 1986 f-150 supercab with a 302 efi auto trans 2 wheel drive. i need to remove the front fuel tank. can i run my truck with the front tank removed till i repair it? if so do i need to plug the fuel lines to the front tank? has anyone ever rebuilt the fuel pump in the front tank? i know the rebuild kit is cheaper. also is there a way to test the front tank fuel pump once its removed? thanks
Yes, You can run the truck w/o the tank, I did with my truck for several years.
Yes, You need to plug the lines somehow to prevent fule from leaking.
I've replaced the front pump before but never rebuilt one. I pried the old pump off so I could reuse the stock sending unit.
I've never tested one out of the vehicle but maybe some of the older more experienced members can help you there.
