hmm guess ill relocate my probe in the manifold then. New probe, used gauge.

easiest place is right behind the rubber splash guard in your drivers side fender well. Just behind the shock mount will be your #4 cylinder. Easy access.... Especially since you gotta tap some threads in there.

yea. I kinda wanted to put it right next to the #7 or #8 cylinder since they run the hottest.

Anyone got a picture of their EGT gauge installation at the back cylinder? I'd like to tap the exhaust manifold for it before I install it but I want to make sure I'll clear the cab/fender/steering shaft/shifter etc

All those nice pictures of my engine when I built it, and I have to post this to show where my thermocouple is located.

i cant remember at the moment and its too dark to check. How accessible is that spot? You put your thermocouple in with the motor out didnt you?

I've heard of a lot of problems due to this, the probe isn't calibrated for the guage. It's best to buy a matched set.

is the probe atleast the same maker as the gauge? like autometer gauge, autometer probe?

Ive got another thread about the pyro from a while back. It should answer any questions. I hooked up the probe to the pyro and heated it with a small propane torch and it seemed to work fine.

well the probe was only 10 bucks and the gauge was free. If i cant make it work its no big loss.

It was worth a shot, however I wouldn't give up yet, I would do some controlled testing before I gave up.

Then there is also the price.

I just paid 70 dollars for a Type K thermocouple.

Sometimes the cheapest price is not the least expensive way to go.

The price may mean nothing, or it may be a very low quality thermocouple.
