is it reading wrong it looks like its reading about 70

its at 100, but shouldnt it be at 0? theirs no probe

uhh good question.you have the probe?you could put the probe in an oven to see if its accurate i suppose

Heat gun, Hair Dryer, Boiling water works much better than the oven.
Thats an old unit, if you don't have the probe that came with it, it's likely useless.

What do the connections on back look like? K type thermocouple wire is red and yellow. If that's what you have on back then any K tyope will work.

K type good for -328*F to 2282*F it will last forever at 1000*F.

When I bought mine it also read above zero. The instructions said that it was set at ambient temp from the factory.

I am going to say a Type K thermocouple will work with it.
Yellow wire on the thermocouple goes to the + terminal and red goes to the - terminal.

any idea where i could get one for a reasonable price locally? i dont much care for buying off the internet.

I think autozone sells pyros and thermal couplers. I know I seen them on the web site awhile back.
