i guess there are two spots you can install the pryometer, ( the part that you drill + tap into the system )
you can put it right by the turbo- but my buddy says that when you drill and tap that area you can get shavings into there that can go through the turbo,
or you can do it after the turbo on the " down tube ? " but that doesnt give as accurate of a reading.
sorry for my lack of proper words, still half asleep !
where would you guys put it ? any concern with a few shavings going through the turbo ?
Toward the rear of the driver's side exhaust manifold on the bottom is by far the most popular place. Grease up the drill bit to catch the chips...you don't want them going through your turbo.
Yep, driver's side manifold. Drilling cast you don't really get any chips. I started with 1/8" and drilled slow, only dust is created. Go up slowly in bit size, like 1/32" increase each time and you won't have any significant particles produced. I vacuumed and used a greased q-tip when done to clean inside the hole, but there wasn't really anything in there.
I did it the same way a cartmanea going up in bit sizes. I used a shop vac after every hole I drilled. Just wear safety glasses to keep the dust out of your eyes..Don't ask how I know.
Like everyone said it is really easy to do just start small and go up in size. When I did mine I cut a fridge magnet into a strip about three inches long and bent it into a 90. It worked really well at getting into the hole and any little pieces or shavings that were in the manifold stuck right to it.
I know the most popular place is on the driver side rear, but knowing what I know now I'd put mine on the passenger side rear if the pyro cord was long enough.
Why the passenger side? What length pryo cords are available?
...and will '05 manifolds fit an '04? (sounds like a stupid question, but have to ask just in case) I have a spare engine/trans...I could drill/tap in the shop and then just change out the manifold if it is easier to do.

I would think it would be easier to just tap it right on the truck.
