Could someone please recommend some new gears for my truck? I have a 95 f150 5.8l with the e40d trans. if im not mistaken and will be going to 32 in. tires. I do not want the motor to be bogged down but i down want it to low because i take it down the interstate also. Right now i am running 265 75 15's and it seems like im in 2nd gear for ever. thanks guys.
Thanks,
Jay
Is there another choice somewhere between whatever is in there now and 4.10? That just seems really aggressive. I am just curious and not soubting you Lew.
Thanks
whatever it comes with from the factory is whats in there for gears now. How do I find out what gears are in my truck? It's a 95 f150 single cab with the 5.8l auto trans I think its the e40d(not sure). Right now it seems like im in 2nd gear from 20mph to 70 with 265-75-15's on it.
4.10's are what you need, that will put the engine at almost the exact same rpm at 70mph as it would have been with stock sized tires and 3.55 gears... which was the most common ratio in thse trucks and the one that best suits the 5.8 for general use.

Where do you guys recommend getting 4.10 gears for the rear end........and front I suppose as it is a 4wd? Another question I have is that I have stock rims for the year(1995). They are the shiny chrome ones with 10 holes all the way around. Will 32" tires perform well on this rim? Thanks guys.
So I have an 89 F250 with the I6 and a ZF 5 speed, as is its bone stock, im putting 33's on it soon and what would be good gears for it? I go 70mph on a daily basis

Here's what you do, go to this link Potential Engine Speed (RPM) Calculator and punch in the numbers to calculate the engine rpm for 30" tires and 3.55 gears(stock combo) in OD(0.76 ratio) at the highway speed you like to run. Then change the tire size to 33" and start selecting gear ratios until you find one that produces about the same engine rpm as the stock combination. Then you will want to select the next available gear ratio up from whatever you calculate to add additional TQ to turn the larger tires. So say you calculate you need 3.95 gears to match exactly, that ratio may not be available for your axle so select the closest ratio available above the ideal ratio or 4.10's.
I recommend 4.10 gears as well. Yes 32 11.50s will work fine on the stock wheels. The stock wheels your referring to are actually aluminum with clear coat on them.
