Help i gotta steam engine sound or a train sound out of the exhaust. I have no clue what it is. Its like swishing i guess you could call it or somethang like that. It idles fine still and drives fine not roughf or anythang just anoying.
It did have but it went out, taping the housing and bearing were shot so i put it all back to stock everythang. Got a 85 and a 86 both the same truck just ones standard and ones auto. Its the auto doing it dont here it in the 85 thats how i know it anit supposed to be making the niose.
Hmm well that was my only culprit I was thinking of, I'm fairly new to these engines, but from what your saying I would guess some type pressurized leak? somewhat hard to try and diagnose I wish I could hear the noise to help you, have you checked for any holes in your exhaust system? do you have a straight pipe? or is there a muffler, I'm pretty sure these old trucks did not come with cats atleast mine does not have one
No cat but the exhaust is 3 1/2 inch but dont no what brand. The turbo was a hypermaxs maybe that helps. I did have the local shop weld up the new y pipe to the 3 1/2 exhaust that came from the turbo. The noise is coming striaght out of the exhaust at the exit point behind tire. I pretty shure its not a exhaust leak i had the shop check it out while in for the y pipe fitment and to be put on he said it look good and i even look at it my self.
So i am still not shure if i new how to upload somethang on here i can video it running with my camara and link it to youtube or somethang but dont no how to, ANYBODY no how to post a link on here to youtube so you guys can here it.
If the video is already on youtube, then copy and paste the web link here into the forum.
With a big free-flowing exhaust you should hear some swoosh from the exhaust. This truck has the bigger Hypermax exhaust, where as the other truck you're comparing to probably still has the stock exhaust.
K boys here it is i hope! I've work on it for awhile getting my blackberry phone
to do this for me. What is the clapping noise? Dont mined the truck i no its dirty lol.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0vXHrOXy7g
Hey it work! First video i put on here and youtube lol. No blueoval no smells but a little diesel fuel smell when you rev it up and some black smoke when you rev it up that all.
Wow, that's definetly not what I was imagining in my head. Did you check your engine oil level? That sounds like a bad knock...
What is your exhaust setup? Any muffler?
Mine doesn't sound anything like that, mine's nice and smooth. Although, when the first engine burnt a lot of oil it would knock like yours if the oil level got way down low, like 6 quarts low. That poor engine was dead before I even got to it...
That's an interesting video clip about the whistler exhaust. Too bad the camera didn't really pick up a good amount of sound without rustling interference. I don't typically complain, but if you can't hear emergency vehicles over the exhaust then they should be banned.
Yeah it has a muffler. It has 3 1/2 in ch exhaust starting from about a foot or so from the factory y pipe. Cause i had to take the down pipe from the old turbo setup and found a stock y pipe system for then just had the local weld shop connect them for me. So what do you thank it is?
