I am trying to remove the spindles from my 1979 F150. I have everything else taken off, rotors, steering linkage, but I can't figure out how the spindle comes off. The picture in the Chiltons book is different from what I have. There were some kind of plugs on the top and bottom that had greese fittings in them and that's as far as I got. If anyone has any advice it would be appreciated.

Unsrew the plugs with the grease fittings and remove them. Then, about midway between the two caps you just removed there is a nut (11/16") that needs to be removed. This is in the axle, not the spindle. After this is removed take a hammer and hit the stud that the nut was screwed onto and drive it out. This is the retaining pin that holds the kingpin in place.
After the pin is removed, and if you're VERY, VERY lucky, you can now take a punch and drive the kingpin out. Chances are though that the pin is seized in the bore of the axle and won't budge. Plan "B", do all of the above, take a torch and heat the axle to release the pin. Plan "C" Pull the axle and take to a machine shop and have them press the pins out.
