I just bought a 1995 F350 diesel 5 speed.
I has a few problems I need to fix. One is, the speedo and od is completely off, does not light up. I haven't found any bad fuses except the one to the lighter. That circuit is shorted.
Another is the U-joint on the rear end, the outer bearing cups rock back and forth on the clamps, the clamps are tight. Is this normal? The caps can't came come off but I've never seen that before.
The stearing is a bit sloppy as well.
if you have any play at all in a u-joint, replace it.
Probably was a non greaseable u-joint and the seal rotted. I hate non greasseables.
Speedo could be a few things, do you mean it doesn't light up, or it doesn't work at all, or both?
The connections for all that stuff is behind of cousrse, could be cooroded connections and bad lamps.
speedo not working probably the VSS if everything behind the cluster is good.
Sloppy stearing is normal for tehse old trucks, but check the linkage up front and the ball joints by jacking the front of the truck up so the front tires are off the ground.
You might need a Rear Anti-lock Brake Sensor or RABS. I lost the speedo and odo when mine quit on me. About $20 to replace, it's the sensor that bolts to the top of the rear diff.

Or could be the PSOM took a dump. The PSOM is a computer module integral to the speedometer that stores the mileage of the truck. When it goes bad you can either have it rebuilt (big $$$) or replace it with a used one. Mileage stays with the PSOM though, so if you buy a PSOM from a rig with 250,000 miles that is what will show in your truck.

IIRC there are a company who can match the PSOM to your real mileage legally, maybe TJ mentioned it time ago.
Chase, you are right. I was lucky when I change my PSOM from miles to km, because I bought one here from a member and I just had to wait little time to match exactly the real mileage/km in my truck and didnt pay any $$$$$$$$.

I had to replace the PSOM in my old gasser, found a complete cluster on Ebay that was within a few hundred miles of what my truck had. I considered that very lucky!
Well, I've been working on this truck all day.. I checked and repaired all the wiring that was cut up from a bad alarm and blown stereo power amp installation. Everything works but still no speedo or OD. The OD window doesn't light up so I'll assume there's no power getting to the speedo circuits. It's not a fuse. I'll have to pull out the cluster and see if there's power getting up there. The cruise control doesn't work either but I figured it was because the speedo doesn't work. I hope it's not a big pain fixing this..
I don't know where Ford hides the PSOM... I took the cluster out, bottom panel out and looked all over in there and can't find any module. The manual says it's behind the cluster... Not in my truck.
Any ideas????

It is INTEGRAL to the speedometer. You have to disassemble the cluster to get to it.
