99 E250 leaf springs

Howdy Fellows (and Fellowetts)
I have a E250 with 4 leaf, leaf springs in it. It is a work truck and as such is loaded with at least a 1000 lbs in it most of the time and sometimes I pull a trailer with 3500lbs in it and a tounge weight of 5 to 6 hundred I guess. It has 220,000 miles on it. W/o the trailer the leaf spring is flat almost dead stright it has no arch.
Here are my questions, is there supposed to be an arch to the spring when loaded? I have a feeling that these springs are tired and if this is the case as I have noted the springs are 4 leaf standard duty could I and should I replace them with a 6 or 9 leaf spring? And if I do will this raise the truck a little or a lot? Or should I put a 4/1 leaf in it? And what does this 1 on this 4/1 leaf do?
Thank you very much fellows (and fellowetts)
