I wanna know what that abortion of a car was when the camera pans left.
And oh yeah, traction is all that matters in one of those pulls. I could probably pull my IDI all day with my Toyota, but the Crawler pretty much floats at 3500lbs compared to the 6k+ of the IDI.
i dont think your toyota could pull the tires of the idi let alone the whole truck lol..... i had a yota. it couldnt pull anything but a 12' aluminum boat.

Even with a 200 to 1 crawl ratio, unless you have more weight/traction than the IDI, it won't even move the IDI.
If you notice in the video, the D Max had his brakes on till the Ford got the tires hot.
Then he let off the brakes and made the slight advances he made.
Limited slip or lockers in both ends, you will win the traction war and can even offset some of a weight disadvantage.
But then you are also getting enough traction that other parts start to be the weak link.
Unfortunately, most of those parts that become the weak link are also rather expensive to replace.

Like I said in my post before, the Toyota floats compared to the IDI, and weight is huge in traction.
I was trying to point out that hooking some bumpers together and letting some red necks hash it out on the skinny pedal doesn't mean squat.
I've got a practical question about this video, and sorry for taking away from the topic, but this video is a great reference.
Is the amount of black smoke from the IDI enought to be concerned about?
On a totally stock N/A motor, is that much smoke enough to cause high EGT's and be time to install a pyro gauge?
To me, that's a lot of black smoke.
Words and exaggeration amounts vary between people. I think that's a lot of smoke for an IDI, where others may think that's a normal amount. If we can determine this much smoke to be acceptable without too high EGT's, that would really put me straight. Sometimes (ok, most of the time) when I see smoke I pull out of the throttle, drop a gear, and continue up the hill. I've only smoked maybe 1/2 as much as this truck in the video.
How much smoke do you guys see on a regular basis?
