302/400 2wd empty engine bay pics?

Hi all, I'm looking for empty engine bay pics, especially the perches, of any 2wd pickup with the 302/351m/400. I have nothing but 4x4's, and I know they're different, but want to see how similar the mounting-to-frame area is. IIRC, the crossmember goes right under and behind them. I have a set of 300 6 perches, and they won't work for what I want to do.

Havi , Go to my album and click on 79 F-100. The first picture it has 302 mounts , but I believe I had them moved ahead one inch in that picture to get closer to the radiator, it never worked out so they were bolted to the set of holes the farthest back and worked out fine. The truck came with a 6cy in it. I looked at my 79 F -150 that I am pulling parts off of and they look to be the same. It had a 400 in it . Hope this helps. JIM

Thanks, Jimbo! Now I remember. That crossmember is big isn't it? I had planned to graft something like this into my '62 Fairlane gasser project for ease of engine swaps.

Good idea, I have wondered how one would work in the older pickups for mounts . Maybe some plates on the ends so it could be moved along the frame to suit which ever engine you are using. JIM

Pickups from 1953 on up to '80? are all front frame width of 34" AFAIK. I think it could be done.

'48-52 are 32" up front, and the springs mount underneath, which is the beam axle I'm using. So I will either have to build the frame at 32", and recess the motor mounts in, or go 34", and angle the frame in at the spring locations to 32". It's all in the planning stages still. Headers will be a deciding factor, too.

To stay on topic, I'll probably have my '78 F150 4x4 done before this car will, lol.

Oh yeah , never thought about the headers they could be tight. I think my next project will be a 51 f2 on a shortend 79 frame. I have it on a 83 ranger frame now but thought the heaver frame might suit me better.. It was pretty easy to put on the ranger frame , a lot less work than I had been told it would be . The frame was 114 in so that was good . What I never liked was the engine had to sit up high causing me to cut a lot out of the floor and firewall if I had went ahead, so I just stopped for now. Well, Havi , I see you are looking for more information. I may be pulling the 302 out of my 79 F-100 this week . I am thinking about replacing it with my 460. If I do I can maybe get you the measurments you need . Do you need the distance between the holes in the frame perch mount that the motor mount though bolt drops in too? Are there anymore measurments you need as I won't have it out very long before I start putting the 460 in ? I have a 79 S.C. frame that had a 400 in , I can get those for you easy as there is no cab or front clip on it now. These are not 4/4s , after selling my bronco I don't have a 4/4 anymore. Just say what you need and I will try to get it. Jimbo [ P.S. you can PM me if needed. ]

302 and 400 are the same perches. I'm looking for bolt hole center to center across the top, across the bottom, and top to bottom. So I can pre-drill the frame pieces before bolting them on. If the crossmember is in the way, then I will have to improvise...which if that's the case, the top holes will be needed so I can at least hang the perches, and go from there.

Here's the beginning of the trailer.

This pic shows the crossmember being a key part of it. Anywho, here's the top bolts measurement I'm looking for.

O.K. I believe I understand. I was going to remove the 400 mount perches from the 150 , so I will do it tomorrow. I will measure straight across from left to right at the top and at the bottem. then I will measure with a straight edge from the top of the frame to the top of the crossmember giving you amount it drops , that should give you the angle that they are mounted.
