So I am looking at cams for my 460. It will have the stock heads, performer intake, 600 cfm carb and headers when it is all said and done. I want a noticeable idle, but nothing radical. What duration/lift range should I be looking?
The way I understand it, porting your heads will gain you more than a cam swap, and will work better with a cam swap. Also, most any aftermarket cam is going to rev farther than the 600 will breath. Most folks with a 600 cfm carb state the motor gives up at about 4000 rpms. i run the comp cam extreme 4x4 cam on my 460 w a 600 edelbrock. It is considered an rv cam which makes good low end torque. runs smooth not much lope to it though. Last year it would run 7500 rpm but now i can only get about 6000. everyone tells me a750 would be a much better carb for it, and i have stock exhaust manifolds and unported heads and a weiand stealth intake. Im only running the 600 because i had it off of a 400.
