Same bell housing and use the same adapter plate up to the powerstroke. Powerstroke transmissions seem to use a slightly different pattern but might still be compatible.
local junkyard has an E4OD diesel trans and shift computer for 200 bucks. It's a 91 so thinking longer-term of building it up with the 96+ internals etc. For now I'm going to keep running my C6 and maybe swap in the E4OD next summer.
A 91 E4od will bolt up as long as it's diesel. While you're at it you'll need the TPS on the injection pump along with the wiring harness to go with that trans and computer.
Yup, the 200 includes the computer and the wire harness for it. engine was removed from the truck but it's in the shed yet so I could snag the TPS from it as well. It's tagged as needing a rebuild but that means a good time to get it updated to all the strong stuff.
I heard great success from the guys that have it. Plus it's flexible as far as programming the computer to do things when you want it too. I have an E4OD for a possible swap and that's the system I'll use if I feel the need. For now though my C-6 with G/V O/D is flawless for what I do.
I was figuring I'd go with a G/V OD as well, but then found this whole setup for 200 bucks, which while it needs a rebuild (about 250 for the rebuild kits, 350 for the baumann upgrade parts to make it same as 97+ puts me at 800.00 which starts to be about where you can get a used gear vendors unit from what I've seen. Assembly/rebuild is a bear, but I work at the local tech college with an auto tech dept and get along well with the instructors. I could probably work out a deal for supervised rebuild (or have the auto tech class do it for free and I just supply the parts). I'm tempted to do the rebuild myself (preferably supervised) as it's the "final frontier" I've pulled apart and rebuilt everything else automotive. Manual transmissions are pretty straightforward and I've done a few but on an automatic the most I've done is drop a valve body.
I'm a sucker for punishment too but I didn't have the benefit of a trained techs to call on when I tore mine apart. Had to learn a lot of things the hard way. If you have their experience to back you up, you will have a much easier time of it than I did.
Sounds like a steal for the transmission, computer and harness.
