Punks vs. Jocks
Skateboarding harder than Football..........I think not!
Wait until one week after you graduate. You'll suddenly realize that everything that ever meant anything to you in High School now means nothing (thankfully, I figured this out in my Junior year). You'll find that you're hanging out with people you never would have in High School and that people are generally much more civilized in college - I emphasize "in college" - it's a different world.
I'm not a skateboarder. I'm not a jock, either. But you might want to consider what you say - you make comments about these kids "not being at a professional level." No offense or anything, but neither are you (even if you have a full ride to college on football, until the whole planet is watching you on Sunday, you're nothing. There's a million other guys just like you). If they're just ignorantly making comments about your team sucking, tell 'em to get lost - they're just looking to stir up trouble. If you're the one who's making comments first, then you reap what you sow.
None of these comments are personal, just unbiased 3rd party view. My advice? be nice to everyone - keep in mind that the dweeb you pick on today might be Bill Gates tomorrow, and you'll be needing a job. Oh, and keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. This is essential.

One more thing - I would argue that skateboarding is harder than football. In football, just being big and in decent shape can get you a position as a defensive lineman - just some gargantuan that gets in the other team's way. I can throw a football, hold the ball and run, and crash into people. I couldn't skateboard to save my life.different strokes for different folks.

>football, i mean really how hard is it to ride a board with
>wheels?? In football you have to have a lot of discipline,
>physical strength, and endurance......people seem to think
>that you can just go into a football program do nothing and
>plus, no offense but this is where some people are very
>milead because football practice is about as close to hel*
>as you can get........please tell me you people dont
>honestly think doing a kickflip indy or whatever they are
>called is harder than running full tilt into another person
>and hitting them as hard as you can you are out of your
>minds.........people think football is a fun sport games
>might be fun but practice is HEL*
First off, if you think High School football practice is hell, don't join the military.
Second, I didn't say that football didn't require talent; I said that I believe skateboarding would be more difficult. Once again, nothing personal, but if YOU, personally, got on "the board with wheels" and went down one of those crazy ramps you see some of these guys doing, well, you'd better wear your football helmet, 'cause you're going to spill and bust your melon. This is just my opinion.
You have also reinforced my convictions about not letting my future children play sports. With all due respect, every "Jock" I've ever known has displayed the same one-track-mind that you have. You refuse to give skateboarding (and presumably any other activity besides football) any respect, and feel the need to deride it in order to convince yourself that you are right and the rest of the world is wrong.
I genuinely feel sorry for you.
you have my condolences.

Not to mention a ridiculous salary, carte blanche to beat your wife/girlfriend/prostitute/whoever, mountains of cocaine, a rap sheet that has to be read in volumes, and a lack of interpersonal communications skills.

I will also agree that football takes skill. I used to play football in highschool. My team was awful but we had kids who went on to play..and I know that in order fo rthem to be as good as they were they had to work out all the time and be conditioned well.
The thing is it takes diffrent kinds of skills for both sports. and if anyone is knocking anyone for not having any skil I encourage them to just try being in the other guys shoes for a bit.
one more thing to the guy who said he doesn't want his kid to play sports...I don't think thats the right way to go because playing sports can be a very good thing for a child. I have played sports my whole life and so have most of my friends and none of have that elitest attitude that you speak of. Its all about who the kid hangs out with and how you teach them.

That is a valid point; a child's upbringing has a lot to do with his personality. But you missed something - you mentioned "Its all about who the kid hangs out with ..." No offense or anything, if a kid, particularly a TEENAGER (which makes them prone to acting without thinking; all teenagers do), and he's hanging out with the elitest jocks, then he's going to act like them or else he won't be welcome in their circle. A properly raised kid won't want to deal with them, and will quit the sport to avoid getting lumped in with them.

I beg to differ. I am a football coach. Skateboarding IS a difficult sport. Not just anyone has the physical prowess, but it is mainly a sport of balance. You do a few tricks, flips, thrashing, etc.
Football on the other hand requires agility, aggresivness, thought processes, skill, extreme stamina, power, balance, and team work skills. Football and skateboarding are not even in the same league.
In football, just being big and in
>decent shape can get you a position as a defensive lineman -

You're way off. A defensive lineman must think, react, and deliver. He must be aggresive and must play a sort of mind chess with the offensive lineman and the backfield. Just because it's a simple position, don't think it takes a simple mind. The best ones in the sport are quite intelligent. If you think that's all there is to it, we have a term for you my friend..."LUNCH"
I

Well, you've got the basics. Now all you need is practice.
I couldn't skateboard to save my life.
Neither can I. But why would you want to? They don't have pep rallies for skateboarders, neither do they have cheerleaders, nor homecoming Queens for that matter. I rest my case.
Dayton, if the "punks" as you call them are just that, ignore them. Concentrate on your game and do your best. With the skills you learn in football, you can go far in life.
If they are just normal kids, then just adopt a "whatever works for you man" attitude. Once you get to college, it wont matter.
I've not heard of a college scholarship for skateboarding. Not yet anyway.

You're not stepping on my toes at all
A friendly (I emphasize "friendly") debate is healthy. However, back to my original arguement. Aside from which activity is more difficult, most people can't do either, let alone both, well. I can sort of "do" football. I can't skateboard. I play guitar fairly well (some people tell me that I'm "really good", but who knows? It's just a hobby)My main point is this: The original poster, the Jock that gets harassed by the skateboarder, needs to realize that The "punks" wouldn't survive in his (the Jocks) world for 5 minutes. And vice versa. Therefore, we all need to get along. That's all.
Football, skateboarding, shuffleboard, poker, skeet shooting - they're all skills that are learned. None is more important than the other.
