Number please
I am coming up with a part number of B8A-6A892 from last page of Sec 60.7. It is hard to decipher the parts list and my local Ford partsman is clueless, since his catalogs only go back to 1982 (he says), however, he can search by numbers, but can not find the number above.
I think if I had the correct number I could go from there. Or, if someone could check, I am relatively close to some local obsolete sources such as Parts Int'l in Farmers Branch, TX. or Antique Auto in Arlington. TX.
NAPA, Autozone and O'Reilly have no listing at all for this application.
Could someone assist?
Thanks
I am coming up with a part number of B8A
C8AZ-6A892-A from last page of Sec 60.7. In-correct for 1965/67's. This grommet fits into the oil cap of 1968/76 FE's.
A 90 degree plastic elbow (C8AZ6767A) fits into the grommet, a smog hose fits onto the elbow, then routes to a nipple on the air cleaner.
For 1965/66's, you have to look up this grommet in the catalog under the listing for the valve cover (6582) / Section 60.7, Page 10.
Fits: 1965/72 F100/350 352/360/390 / 1965/67 Passenger Cars 352/390/410/428.

C7AZ6A892A & B are identical. Ford changed the part numbers suffix when they changed the package quantity.
Remember the 1950's Superman TV show? GREAT CAESAR'S GHOST! was the catch phrase of the Daily Planet's editor, Perry White.
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever heard the reference to dead as Julius Caesar except you! which is why I replied the way I did.
The reference you indicate - I would NEVER have found. If I did, I would not have likely realized the ret. (as abbreviated) was the part I needed.
Since you have looked (I believe), I would guess I don't need to contact local Ford dealerships for this part.
Thanks
"He's as dead as Julius Caesar" = spoken by Sean Connery in the film "The Untouchables."
You can contact your local dealer for this part, but...since it's obsolete, they won't have it, can't order it. Basically...the part number is as dead as Julies Caesar!
I found the grommets by running the part number on the in-house Ford Dealer Parts Locator System (no dealer in TX has any) and the obsolete parts vendors website (no one in TX has any).
The grommet is illustrated here: Illustration Section 66.3, Page 2, lower picture.
When it came it had part number C7AE-6A892-A molded into the rubber and WAS NOT the correct part (even tho I did order correct number).
DC says my part number C7AE-6A892-A is bad, but it appears to be genuine FoMoCo. They say if I send it back, they will refund my money, but shipping is, of course, more than the $7 part.
Could this be a molding error, or is there such a part? Not that it really matters, I just did not like DC telling me the part number on a Ford part I had in my hand was bad. BTW, I have checked and double checked and the questionable E (and suffix A) is there on the part.

Numbers marked on parts after 1956 are FoMoCo ID Engineering numbers, not actual FoMoCo part numbers.

So if that part is just a grommet to retain a smog valve, would it be ok to just cap this valve cover?
The same grommet on my passenger side valve cover needs to be replaced, and I was trying to source the replacement part; however, it is hard to find.
I found one on ebay, but it cost ~$50: Ford 428CJ Boss 302 PCV Valve Grommet C7AZ 6A892 B | eBay
This specific grommet has grooves on the bottom that are needed to fit into the valve covers I have.

MUSTANG'S ETC. in Van Nuys CA has 28 = 818-787-7634, but they usually want MEGA-BUCKS for obsolete parts.
If you live in the LA area, call Bo @ Mustang Service Center in North Hollywood (818-765-9266), he may have some. Bo is an ex Ford partsguy.
In the mid 1970's, Bo and I worked at the Ford dealer in WLA.
The eBay auction for the C7AZ-6A892-B evidently is what the book says is correct for a 1966 352 truck as seen in the auction listed above:
Based on the date of my original post, after a year and a half, I still have not been able to find the one for my truck. My rocker covers seem to be 1965 vintage and were originally gold painted. They are definitely for a 352 motor and have a simple 1 1/4" round hole in the passenger side rocker arm cover. Unfortunately the retainer was so brittle it broke into pieces when I removed it for painting (glued back together for the picture):
The lugged retainer seems to be the correct one by the book, but obviously it ain't what I need!
Sure wish I could find a replacement, but still have no clue to the number. I actually went to a hardware store and bought a 1 1/4" grommet with a 3/4" hole that sorta works, but it is not quite thick enough to properly retain the PCV valve in an upright position.
If you have any other ideas on what this could be off of so I can find one, I would be obliged if you would let me know.
Thanks
The previous cap did not allow fresh air into the valve cover.
I read that these old trucks came with breathable oil filler caps, and that is what helps the truck circulate fresh air with the recycled air from the pcv valve, on the other valve cover.
Is there a reason why a non-breathable oil filler cap would be used in place of a breathable cap?
