A 2003 is a 2 valve. The 3 valve came out in 2004

Actually, the 3 Valve for the SuperDuty didn't come out until 2005! Regardless, you have the 2 valve.

2V motors also have a knock sensor, but that will not cause the knock. Is it doing this all the time, throughout all RPM ranges?

If its when you start up, what kind of oil filter you have? Motorcraft oil filters will solve the start up problem.

I think the 3v came out in the 2005 model year, but was available in the fall of 2004. So your both right!

Back to the OP, do you have a check engine light? If so, what are the codes?

The 3 valve came out first in the 2004 f150. Then in 2005 it was put in the Super Duty.
I should have been clearer in my first post. I really didn't think there was a reason to post a response because we were both correct.
