Not starting - extenuating

"I posted this in the SD pickup forum above, but decided this was the better place"

Ok .... I'll start from the beginning. I was near bottom on the fuel tank and needing a fishing license, so stopped at the local svc station that did both. While I ran in to get my license, the wife filled the 1999 7.3 SD ... with gasoline.

Luckily, it was spotted upon hanging up the hose. I called a friend to bring some 5 gallon cans and a fuel line quick connect tool. In the mean time I looked at the fuel filter to see if it was an easy access to the inlet line. In looking, I had to unplug one sensor wire that I don't know the function. It didn't look good there, so put the wire and cover back on. We hooked up with a chain and pulled the pickup to a dirt lot next to the svc station. The engine was never turned over.

I pulled the fuel line downstream of the fuel pump and proceeded to pump the gas out of the tank and into the cans one cycle at a time. It took about two hours to do this. (it would not syphon from any connection point).

After putting 25 gallons of diesel in the tank, It fired right up and ran home with no pinging, rattling or excessive heat. (Home is 15 miles out of town) Next morning after making sure the batteries are both charged up after all the cycling of the glowplugs and fuel pump, I try to start it up. All I can get is one romp after turning on the starter and then just much white smoke out of the tail pipe. It is still aroung 35 degrees in the mornings here.

Any suggestions as to the problem? I replaced the glow plugs a little over a year ago. 130,000 on the engine.

Thanks for any help.

Don

yup .... all the cycling must have burned out the GPR. At 33* this morning I jumped the GPR for about 45 seconds. Fired right up.

Can't believe I didn't check this yesterday. I had to replace the durn relay when I replaced the glow plugs.

Thanks.

Shiite!! ... Local auto parts store, Carquest, wants $82 for a new GPR. It's the same one I put in last year. I decided I can jump the durn thing a couple times when needed and ordered the Stancor for $44 bucks.
