I have an oppurtunity to buy a 302(running) out of a boat. Is a marine engine any different then the street version. I would think the only differences are exhaust manifolds, ignition, and carb. I am looking for a solid engine, possibly making it a stroker. Thanks
Sometimes marine engines are reverse rotation.
They also will often have cast iron versions of the timing cover and intake manifold.
The older Marine carburetor intake manifolds are pretty well the same as automotive units.
Besides the parts mentioned above the marine motors typically got better heads(GT40 on later motors or C9/D0 castings on earlier versions) and a specific marine grind cam which is very much the same as an automotove RV cam without any emissions considerations, so these motors are generally more powerful than what you would have found in a vehicle from the same era.
