C6 Transmission woes
I have a '72 F100 with a 360, with a C6. I took it to a mom&pop shop to have them replace the torque converter and they screwed me bad, so now I have a few issues...
-1 they cut the support that bolts to the frame below the pan
-2 they some how broke off a section of the bell-housing. And of course it's right where it bolts to the block. So it's only hanging onto the block via 1 bolt!
SO, that is what I'm left with. I'm trying to pick up the pieces, and I'm wondering a few things.
-Looking at tracking down a few other C6, but will any C6 bolt up to my 360 block?
-Is now a time to be looking at a different transmission? I drive her maybe once a week, and on weekends to haul stuff.
-Where the heck do I find a replacement for that brace? Not even sure what it's called?
Thanks for any help you can send my way.
As ticked off as I am, I'm not the type to go after a widow who just lost her husband.
I've learned my lesson about using a small mom & pop shop. Just nothing really that I could do other then bring the law into it. Which just doesn't really right.
In a few years I would have needed a new transmission anyway... so it's just forcing my hand a little early.
If it's the crossmember they cut; you probably should get it welded right away. It's there for a reason.
As far as going after the widow; this guy's estate can still pay for the damage. It's business-she'll get over it. You didn't do the dastardly deed.
Good luck
Anytime that you are dealing with any business that takes payment for service rendered you have a right to expect them to be able to complete the task without damages. The business is liable, if they are broke and the widow can't pay restitution then walk away, but they should have liability insurance that you can collect from not her.
The C6 tranny cases are different at the bell but the same down the body. Parts swap between them.
Cross members should be the same between like trucks, so finding a replacement should be easy enough.
Check with an attorney to see if the business had insurance.
