I am trying to diagnose my 95 powerstroke 4x4 with a manual trans. It has the OBDII connector, but my mechanic buddy is unable to do a buzz test or cylinder contribution test. He was using an OTC scan tool to try to perform the tests. He's experienced so I doubt that he doesn't know what he's doing.
Is there something we're missing or do these older trucks just not have these features? I have a 1997 PCM for an auto truck, can I install that to perform the tests? Can I have my 95 PCM reflashed so that these tests can be performed?
If the 97 PCM isn't for a Cali rig with split shot injectors then it should work fine in your 95. I've never heard of any differences in the PCM from 95-97 that would cause you a problem. Jody at DP Tuner would know for sure.
Try scanning it with the OBD1 connector under the hood.
I have both on my 96 but it was flashed to OBD2 so the one under the dash works. Like already mentioned you may need to have yours re-flashed for OBD2 scans.
You can NOT use an auto computer on a 5 speed truck. the engine runs like crap and the clutch safety switch and a few other things do not work. been there tried that. Twice.

And I had always heard it would work... good to know.
