Easiest engine swap?

I haven't checked anything yet as to what could be the problem....but I just listened to the engine (new exhaust) and I hear some sort of a knock/ticking. What is the EASIEST engine swap to do in a 64. I have a 223 now that I have previously posted "runs great". Not sure how much longer that will go on. But if I do have to put a new engine in down the line. I was just wondering what my easiest options are as far as not having to modify much to get it in there. The truck also has the three speed column shift.

When is the last time you adjusted the valves? Only thing that fits a 223 bell is another 223.

Never....like I said, I haven't looked into it yet. Was just thinking of worst case senario. I would swap the engine and tranny if I needed a new one. I want to change out the engine someday anyhow (was just gonna run this one till it quit). So I was just seeing if anyone had any input on what is the easiest swap, seeing as anything (at least power wise) would be better than the 223.

Adjust the valves to spec and see if it quiets it up a bit. The 223 has inherent tappet noise as it is a mechanical cam.

Any engine trans combo will swap in as it is a open ladder frame. Just need the correct custom mounts, Hemis, Rats, and just about anything else will fit. Each is fairly easy if done correctly.

The easiest swap is to put in what you have already.

Yeah I know....but there are not that many 223s around these parts. The 300 would be nice. I could definately get some good power out of it. Does any know if that would mount the same as the 223. Or does it use a cross member like the V8s?

you would need a F350 65 66, f250 or 65 f100 four wheel drive mounts for a 240/300. These fit but are hard to find as the supply was limited.

The 300 will fit on to a aftermarket FE mount with a bit if enlarging of the holes. But you still will need a new transmission and trans mount as the one you have will not bolt to anything after 64.

A Y Block. Just one bracket to add to the frame.

I have been wanting to ask about an engine swap in my 66 F100, it presently has a 352 w/ 3 speed trans. How much trouble to install a 302 & auto tranny?

It's not much trouble at all, you would need to find a 70-79 ford truck that has the 302 engine stands/perches to install in your truck because the 352 stands will not work.

also the 302 stands bolt in the back set of holes in the crossmember and you will need to drill out one of the lower holes on each side.

And a bell housing as the 233 and 292 do not interchange.
