restoring a 1951 ford f2, have original title everything matches up so no foul play here. problem is i do not have the original key to the car so once my rebuild is complete i will need a way to start the truck from inside the cab. is there a specific way into dealing with this problem or any suggestions would be much appreciated. i was thinking about finding a parts trck and taking the ignition and door locks off it and using that key. what ya guys think
You can do that, if you can find a parts truck with keys, or you might just call a locksmith and have him make a set of keys for you. The other option would be to purchase a set of aftermarket replacement locks from any of the many truck parts suppliers.
my old 53 has of all things a ignition switch , 12 volt , like you'd buy for a riding mower ............. so ............. yep it's getting replaced , but for the time of use in which she was drove every day it worked just fine .
Rotsa Ruck finding a parts truck withthe original ignition switch and door locks (possibly glove box lock) all still on the truck and using one key.
If you take your ignition switch and door locks to a locksmith, they may be able to rekey them to all the same key (they may need a key to remove the ignition switch lock cylinder - and they would probably make one, then change it to be the same as you door locks). If they can't you can buy a new ignition switch (the lock cylinders and keys are a seperate item), then I know the locksmith can rekey the door locks to fit the ignition key.
